How to contact our team
The River Routes in Stockton Project have been busy improving access for visitors to Preston Hall Park and museum.
The volunteer group was asked to undertake a series of access and habitat improvements along the river side that runs along the edge of the park. The group built two raised boardwalks, which spanned a total distance of 100m, as well as improving a flight of steps, and carrying out some bank clearance work to improve visitors views of the river. The work has meant that there is wheelchair access along the river bank, where previously there was none.
The work was carried out as part of improvements taking place under the Tees Heritage Park project. It is hoped it will encourage more people to visit the park and enjoy the green spaces available right on people’s doorsteps.
All the members of the group were volunteers taking part in the River Routes in Stockton’s regular volunteer days that are run Tues-Fri every week. The group undertakes a range of practical conservation and landscaping activites and all are welcome to take part.
The River Routes in Stockton project is funded through the Access to Nature programme run through Natural England. Match funding for the project was supplied by Groundwork North East and Stockton Borough Council. The project works with local communities to enhance the environment along the River Tees and in other river corridors throughout the Borough. It is a partnership initiative between British Waterways, Environment Agency, Groundwork North East and Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council".
